The team from Northern California used an impressive second day on Sunday to pull away from the field and win the 46^th Eddie Hogan Cup at Riverside Golf and Country Club in Portland, Ore. Justin Suh, who plays for Northern California, earned medalist honors after winning by one stroke.

Northern California entered Sunday with a two-shot lead over Oregon Team #2. Northern California made the turn on Sunday at 6-under par and cruised on the second nine, finishing at 5-under par 211 on Sunday and winning by 13 shots with a two-day total of 431 (-1). Team Oregon #1 shot 219 (+3) on Sunday, leaping two teams and finishing in second place at 444 (+12). Southern California’s 218 total on Sunday tied for the second lowest on the day, and the team finished in third place at 14-over par for the Cup (446).

Three players from Northern California (Justin Suh, Matt Lloyd, Isaiah Salinda) finished in the top-10 of the tournament. Three players from Oregon Team #1 (Riley Elmes, Spencer Tibbits, Alex Wrenn) ended up in the top-20. Elmes, the team’s top finisher, ended in a tie for fifth place after scores of 73-73 – 146 (+2).

In the individual competition, Suh finished as the only player in the tournament to shoot two under-par rounds, finishing at 71-70 – 141 (-3) and a one-shot win over Tyler Moore of Southern California, who fired the low score of the event, a 4-under par 68 on Sunday. Moore ended up with a total score of 74-68 – 142 (-2). The first-round leader, Van Thomas of Nevada, finished in third place and with scores of 69-75 – 144 (E).

Suh, from San Jose, Calif., has qualified for the Hogan Cup four times. Suh has also qualified for the U.S. Junior Amateur four times and is a three-time qualifier for the Junior Americas Cup. Moore (Escondido, Calif.) finished T-3 earlier this year at the 2014 AJGA Footjoy Invitational and T-6 at the 2014 Western Junior Invitational. Thomas (Las Vegas, Nev.) was the 2014 Nevada State High School Champion and has played in the Hogan Cup four times.

After a 2-over par 38 on his first nine on Saturday, Suh played the remaining 27 holes of the Cup at 5-under par. On Sunday, Suh started strong, shooting 35 (-1) on the front. Suh birdied the 10^th and 11^th holes, while his only bogey on the back nine was on the 14^th hole. His 2-under par 70 on the second day was tied with teammate Matt Lloyd for the second lowest score shot on Sunday.

The Hogan Cup 36-hole team matches – held annually at Riverside Golf & Country Club in Portland, Ore. - pit the best junior golfers from the Western United States and Canada against each other in a team format with the three lowest scores each day determining the team total. Medals are awarded to the top three teams as well as the top three individuals in the field.

The event began in 1969 in commemoration of the vast achievements and contributions to the sport by Eddie Hogan, Riverside's long-time head golf professional who served the club from 1939 until his tragic drowning death in 1968. Hogan, an Oregon Amateur champion and PNGA Amateur champion, was credited for transforming the role of the golf professional, developing what is now considered the standard for the green grass pro shop. Hogan was also dedicated in helping the Oregon Golf Association develop its widely-recognized junior golf program.

Hogan Cup alumni include tour players such as Patrick Cantlay, Bobby Clampett, Fred Couples, Rickie Fowler, Lennie Clements, Scott Simpson, Robert Gamez, Bill Sanders, Kirk Triplett, John Fought, Peter Jacobsen, Jeff Quinney, Casey Martin, Jason Gore and Tiger Woods.
