FIELD SET FOR 26th OREGON MID-AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP AT EMERALD VALLEY GOLF & RESORT

Creswell, Ore. (Thursday, August 21, 2014) – Emerald Valley Golf & Resort is set to host the 26th Oregon Mid-Amateur Championship, where more than 80 of the top mid-amateur golfers in theNorthwest prepare to compete August 23-24.

This year’s Men’s Division field is headlined by several past champions, including defending champion Randy Mahar (Portland, Ore.), three-time defending Oregon Senior Amateur Champion Scott Hval (Portland, Ore.) and 2011 Oregon Amateur Champion Jack Dukeminier (Portland, Ore.).

Mahar won a weather-shortened 25th Oregon Mid-Amateur Championship last year at Eagle Crest Resort & Ridge Courses, where severe weather & lightning prevented the conclusion of Sunday’s final round. Mahar recently qualified for the 2014 US Senior Amateur Championship.

In the Women’s Division, Brie Stone (Veneta, Ore.) aims to continue her unprecedented string of four straight victories at the Mid-Amateur, while the field consisting of past Oregon Amateur Champions Tracy Broders (Tigard, Ore.), 2006, and Kate Hildhahl (Portland, Ore.), 2008, look to derail her streak.

The 36-hole stroke play championship will commence Saturday morning, with the first groups teeing off at 8:00 a.m. on holes 1 & 10.

The typical storyline at Emerald Valley is that birdies can be plentiful on the front nine, but bogeys can be just as prevalent on the back nine especially for those that don't play smart. The course will play to a yardage of 6,693 for the men and 5,648 for the women.

The minimum qualification for entrants is a handicap index of 10.0 or less for men and 22.4 or less for women who, as of August 23, 2014 are 25 years of age or older.
