30th Oregon Net Championship Venue Changed to Orchard Hills Country Club
The 30th Oregon Net Championship, which was previously rescheduled for October 11 & 12th at Lewis River Golf Club, will now be held at Orchard Hills Country Club in Washougal, OGA Director of Tournament Operations Brent Whittaker announced today.
The event had been rescheduled at Lewis River twice this year to give the greens at the course time to recover from issues beyond the control of the Lewis River Staff. OGA staff & Lewis River Golf Course worked together over many months to come up with a suitable solution for the Championship to be held at the course. Ultimately, changing venues became the only viable option.
OGA & Lewis River consulted with David Phipps, the Golf Course Superintendent’s Association of America’s NW Field Staff representative who personally visited the course and evaluated the conditions.
“Lewis River Superintendent Chris Robson is committed to providing championship conditions, but at this time he would not be comfortable presenting his course in its current condition,” Phipps reported. “After losing operation of the irrigation system in July, followed by the onset of anthracnose and nematodes, Chris felt the greens wouldn’t have enough time to heal by the time of the Oregon Net Championship. There is no question that Chris and his staff will have the greens back in shape by the end of the season.”
The decision to move venues did not come lightly for the OGA Championship Department.
“This was a huge decision and not at all the fault of Lewis River, these things just sometimes happen” Whittaker said. “We’re pleased that Orchard Hills stepped up to accommodate us and we look forward to getting back to Lewis River as soon as possible.
The 30th Oregon Net Championship will be held October 11th & 12th at Orchard Hills Country Club in Washougal, Wash. Deadline for entry is September 24th at 5pm.
