MATCH PLAY COMMENCES, WEATHER CONDITIONS DETERIORATE AT 31st OREGON SENIOR AMATEUR

Molalla, Ore. (September 23, 2014) – Amid intermittent showers at Molalla’s Arrowhead Golf Club, players continued to battle it out during today’s first round of match-play at the 31st Oregon Senior Amateur Championship.
Top-seed Doug Banks (Tualatin, Ore) handily defeated 32-seed Kurt Hiersche (Portland, Ore.) 7 & 5 and will face 17-seed and last year’s US Senior Amateur Championship Runner-Up Pat O’Donnell (Happy Valley, Ore.) in one of tomorrow’s featured matches.
Three time Defending Champion Scott Hval (Portland, Ore.) defeated Tom Zupan (Portland, Ore) 4 & 3 and will face Greg Guernsey (Vancouver, Wash.) who defeated Mike Gleason (Camas, Wash.) in Wednesday’s Quarterfinals.
In the biggest upset of the day, 30-seed David Lydell (Aloha, Ore) defeated 3-seed Randy Mahar 1up
In the Women’s Division, only two matches were held Tuesday as Anita Wicks (Roseburg, Ore.) defeated Darci Trimmer (Vancouver, Wash.) 4 & 3 and will advance to play defending champion and this year’s medalist Leilani Norman (Eugene, Ore).
Loree McKay (Hillsboro, Ore.) defeated Charisse Spada (Portland, Ore.) 1 up and will face the winner of the Wicks/Norman match in the Final on Thursday.
