PUMPKIN RIDGE GOLF CLUB WINS THE FIRST SEASON OF THE OGA WOMEN’S INTERCLUB PLAY
(Welches, Ore) Nineteen teams competing in three divisions the title at season ending Championship, held at the Resort at the Mountain on Saturday, October 4, 2014.
Being an inaugural year and pilot program, there were nineteen clubs divided over three divisions. Clubs competed with teams of six players in a fourball match play format against other teams in their divisions at five match sites from May thru August. Earning points at each match for both gross and net, the teams with the most points from each division played for the OGA Women’s Interclub Play title. Forest Hills GC came from Division I, Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club came from Division II and Persimmon Country Club rounded out the third team from Division III.
Unlike the regular season, each team brought eight players playing two matches against the other division winners and points were awarded by gross and net per hole. With 36 points available per match, it was Pumpkin Ridge that came out the winner with a decided victory of 63 points, to 34 points for Persimmon and 39 points for Forest Hills.
Besides the championship match, all Clubs that had competed during the regular season were invited to the Resort at the Mountain to take part in a season finale competition. Teams’ season ending points were combined with the points they earned in the season finale. Instead of a fourball match play, the format for the season finale was a fourball stableford. The Oregon Golf Club was named the champion at the end of the day's competition.
“We are excited to have crowned our first ever Women’s Interclub Play winner and Pumpkin Ridge is a very deserving champion, in all it was a successful year” said OGA Women’s Interclub Play Chairwoman Helen (Rusty) Beckel. “With the inaugural season over, it is time to look forward to next year” said Brent Whittaker, OGA Director of Tournament Operations. “We would like to expand on what we started opening up for more teams and creating more divisions, eventually having teams competing in regions in every corner of the state.”
