Senior Amateurs win 23rd Senior Hudson Cup; Amateurs and Professionals Tie in 66th Hudson Cup

The team of some of the best amateurs representing the Oregon Golf Association and Washington State Golf Association tied top professionals from Oregon and Washington in the 66th Hudson Cup, while 10 of the best senior amateurs from the Pacific Northwest won the 23rd Senior Hudson Cup over 10 senior professionals representing the Pacific Northwest PGA Section. Both events took place at Tualatin Country Club on October 23-24.

The amateurs and professionals competing in the Hudson Cup were tied at five points apiece going into Friday’s Singles Matches. After the amateur team won two of the first three matches, the professionals made a strong push near the end of the day, ultimately winning the last match to earn the tie with the amateurs. In that last match, Jeff Coston defeated Matt Hartley on the 18th and final hole. The competition ended in a 10-10 draw.

In the 23rd Senior Hudson Cup, the amateurs held a 6-4 advantage after Thursday’s matches. Needing 4½ points to win, the amateur team won a total of six matches, also halving one match, defeating the senior professional team for the first time since 2003, 12½-7½.

After both competitions were over, awards were presented to the outstanding player on each team as decided by votes of the team members. Those awards were given to:

  • Charles Congdon Award – Sean Packer (Amateur)
  • Larry Lamberger Award – Tim Feenstra (Professional)
  • Bill Eggers Award – Alex Stamey (Senior Amateur)
  • Bob McKendrick Award – Joe Carranza (Senior Professional)
