First Oregon Amateur Qualifier Complete; 27 Players Advance to Championship

Banks, Ore.The Oregon torrential downpour from the previous few days let up for the first Oregon Amateur Championship Qualifier at Quail Valley Golf Course in Banks, Ore., but sunny skies did not yield a plethora of low scores. The 72 players in the field struggled with the wind all day in a battle for the 27 qualifying spots available for the 106th Oregon Amateur Championship at this day’s event.

Trevor Warner (Portland, Ore.), who plays collegiate golf for Trinity University (San Antonio, Texas), took medalist honors after shooting an impressive 3-under par 69. University of Oregon player Nigel Lett (Beaverton, Ore.) was two strokes back after turning in a 1-under par 71. Three players finished at even par: Tanner Huddleston (Woodland, Wash.), Nicholas Huff (Vancouver, Wash.) and Trey Johnson (Tualatin, Ore.).

After 18 holes, there were 28 players within the qualifying score of 77, and so a 4-way playoff decided the final three spots. Matt Doud (Tigard, Ore.), Andrew Grove (Newberg, Ore.) and Alex Plusquellec (Sherwood, Ore.) all advanced to the Championship in the 4-person playoff.

Qualifying in today’s event guarantees each player 36-holes of stroke play qualifying at the Oregon Amateur Championship at The Reserve Vineyards and Golf Club, which begins on June 22 and runs until the championship match concludes on June 27.

The next qualifier will be held on Saturday, June 6th at the OGA Golf Course in Woodburn, Ore.
