Low Scores Highlight First Round of Peter Jacobsen Junior Challenge
The first round of the Peter Jacobsen Junior Challenge took place on Tuesday, June 16th at Trysting Tree Golf Club in Corvallis, Ore., and low scores were a common theme among all divisions competing in the two-day event.
The second round continues Wednesday, while the top three competitors from both the Girls and Boys 15-17 IMG Junior World Qualifying will earn an invitation to compete in this year’s IMG Acadamy Junior World Championship.
In the Boys Open Division, Spencer Tibbits (Vancouver, Wash.) fired a 6-under par 66 that leads after day one. Just behind him is Ryan Feyrer (Lacey, Wash.), who’s at -5 (67), and Joshua Wu (Medford, Ore.) who shot 69 (-3). Brock Anderson (Lake Oswego, Ore.) and Bryce Wortman (Klamath Falls, Ore.) are both at -2 (70). Four more players are at 1-under par.
Ellie Slama (Salem, Ore.) shot an impressive round of 67 (-5) on Tuesday to lead the Girls Open Division by three shots over Daniele Giles (Central Point, Ore.), who fired a 2-under par 70. Victoria Gailey (Tigard, Ore.), Jennifer Krause (Eugene, Ore.) and Ellen Secor (Portland, Ore.) are at 2-over par after shooting 74.
Aaron Richardson (Gearhart, Ore.) leads the Junior Boys Division at 3-over par (75). In the Girls Division, Taryn Lee Maurer (West Linn, Ore.) and Mary Jane Anderson (Lake Oswego, Ore.) are tied for the lead after both shooting 92 on Tuesday. Samuel Pyon (Happy Valley, Ore.) shot even-par (72) on Tuesday to lead by three shots over Joseph Brundan (Eugene, Ore.) in the Boys Division.
In the Intermediate Girls Division, Sara Parker (Beaverton, Ore.) leads by one shot over Jessica Ponce (Portland, Ore.) and Heejung Kang (Portland, Ore.) after shooting 83 (+11) on Tuesday. Isaac Buerger (Redmond, Ore.) went low with a 4-under par 68 on Tuesday to lead the Intermediate Boys Division by two shots over Scotty Kennon (Bandon, Ore.).
In the Pee Wee Boys 10-11 Division, Graham Moody (Vancouver, Wash.) fired an even-par round of 36 to lead after day one, while Spencer Moody (Vancouver, Wash.) and Douglas Bailey (Durham, Ore.) lead the Pee Wee Boys 8-9 Division after both shooting 48. Riley Hammericksen (Medford, Ore.) leads by 11 shots in the Pee Wee Girls 10-11 Division after an impressive round of 37, and Natalie Yen (West Linn, Ore.) and Lucy Newell (West Linn, Ore.) share the first round lead in the Pee Wee Girls 8-9 Division after both firing 49 in the first round.
