106th Oregon Amateur Championship Starts Monday, June 22nd at The Reserve Vineyards and Golf Club

Aloha, Ore. - Oregon’s premier amateur event, the 106th Oregon Amateur Championship, runs Monday, June 22nd through Saturday, June 27th at The Reserve Vineyards and Golf Club – North Course in Aloha, Ore.

The Oregon Amateur Championship features some of the best golfers in the region, with defending champions Thomas Lim (Moorpark, Calif.) and Gigi Stoll (Beaverton, Ore.) in the field to attempt to defend their titles. Lim, who plays collegiate golf at the University of Oregon, has reached two Oregon Amateur finals in a row; in 2013, he lost in the Championship match to Nick Chianello. Stoll has also reached two straight Oregon Women’s Amateur finals, as she fell to Kendall Prince in the Championship match two years ago.

The rest of the field in the Men’s Championship is as strong as ever. Austin Landis (Milwaukie, Ore.), who lost to Lim in last year’s final match, is in the field, as are many past OGA champions. Conner Kumpula (Albany, Ore.) won last year’s Oregon Men’s Stroke Play Championship, and also plays golf at Oregon State University, and Hogan Arey (Corvallis, Ore.) is the defending champion of the Oregon Public Links Championship.

“Annually, the Oregon Amateur Championship includes some of the strongest golfers in our region,” said OGA Director of Tournament Operations Brent Whittaker. “This year is no exception, and we are excited for the challenge that The Reserve Vineyards and Golf Club – North Course will present to the players.”

Scott Hval (Portland, Ore.), who won three straight Oregon Senior Amateur Championships from 2011-13, will be looking for another Oregon Amateur title, as he won back in 1997; Pat O’Donnell (Happy Valley, Ore.) won last year’s Oregon Senior Amateur title, and also won in 2008 and 2010, and David Jacobsen (Portland, Ore.) won the 2012 Oregon Mid-Amateur Championship. Joel Johnson (Portland, Ore.) won last year’s Oregon Mid-Amateur title, and is also in the field.

Players from Oregon’s Division I universities will also be out in full force next week. In the field from the University of Oregon Men’s Golf Team are Max Carter (Lake Oswego, Ore.), Zach Foushee (West Linn, Ore.), Nigel Lett (Beaverton, Ore.), Sulman Raza (Eugene, Ore.) and Lim. Kevin Murphy (Rogue River, Ore.), Brett Johnson (Vancouver, Wash.) and Kumpula all play at Oregon State University.

The Women’s Amateur field is also full of impressive and talented golfers, including defending champion Stoll. Stoll recently finished second in the 2015 OGA Women’s Tournament of Champions, and last year won both the Oregon Women’s Amateur and Oregon Junior Girls Amateur in back-to-back weeks. Stoll is off to play at the University of Arizona next fall.

Also in the field is Brie Stone (Veneta, Ore.), who has won an unprecedented five-consecutive Oregon Women’s Mid-Amateur titles, and Ashlee Pickerell (Salem, Ore.), who won the 2013 Oregon Women’s Public Links Championship. Kaitlin Collom (Klamath Falls, Ore.), who lost to Stoll in last year’s Oregon Junior Girls Amateur Championship match, is also playing.

Collegiate golfers are also representing in the Women’s Amateur. Oregon State’s Hannah Swanson (Forest Grove, Ore.) and Pickerell are participating, along with Portland State’s Krissy Peterson (Canby, Ore.).

This is the first time that The Reserve Vineyards and Golf Club has hosted the Oregon Amateur, and the second OGA Championship at the facility. In 2013, the OGA Team Championship was held on the South Course.
