Aloha, Ore. (June 25, 2015) – With temps hovering just below triple digits and high humidity, four of the states best amateur golfers persevered to advance to the final matches of the 106th Oregon Amateur Championship at The Reserve Vineyard & Golf Club.

In his morning round, Junior Chico-State Wildcat golfer, Alistair Docherty (Vancouver, Wash.) advanced by defeating Medalist Alex Wrenn (Lake Oswego) 3 & 1.

In his afternoon match, it took Docherty a strong come-from-behind final push over the last 6 holes to defeat Joel Johnson (Portland, Ore.), who stood 4 Up on the 13th teebox.  A string of four consecutive threes (two birdies, two pars) put Johnson 1 up with two holes to play.

Docherty narrowly avoided the need to play his provisional ball after pulling his tee shot way left, which ended up two holes over on the 12th tee. After Johnson’s ball found the hazard on his second shot, Docherty’s par got him back to all square. An eagle on the 501-yard par-five 18th sealed the deal to advance to Saturday’s final.

In his morning round, Northwestern sophomore Dylan Wu (Medford, Ore.) got off to a strong start winning 5 of his first 6 holes in his semifinal match over Cole Graham (Forest Grove, Ore.) and held steady to win 4 & 3.

In his afternoon match vs Oregon State Beaver golfer Conner Kumpula (Albany, Ore.), Wu faced his fiercest competition of the week seeing the 18th hole in only his second match of the week.  Kumpula was 2 Up on the 16 tee box before Wu birdied his final three holes to win 1 Up and advance to face Docherty.

Defending Champion Gigi Stoll (Beaverton, Ore.) defeated 2008 Champion Kate Harper (Portland, Ore.) 4 & 3 to advance to the semifinals in a match that saw just two birdies by Stoll & three bogeys by Harper where amongst 31 pars between the two. Stoll will play her collegiate golf at the University of Arizona in the Fall.

Stoll then faced Hannah Swanson (Forest Grove, Ore.) in her afternoon semifinal match in a rematch of the 2012 Oregon Junior Amateur final match, where Swanson emerged victorious. Stoll won the first two holes and never let up on her way to a 5 & 4 win.

Medalist Madison Odiorne (Bend, Ore.) advanced to the finals by defeating Kristin Elich (West Linn, Ore.) 1 up in the quarterfinals in a back-and-forth match where both players saw leads before heading to the 18th hole all square. Odiorne’s birdie on the par-five 18th hole earned her the birth in the semis.

In the semis, Odiorne faced Ashlee Pickerell (Salem, Ore.) in her first ever 36-hole day.  Odiorne took an early lead winning the second hole, before trailing most of the match where Pickerell eventually had a 3 up lead after 12 holes. Odiorne won three of the next four holes to take the match to all square where it stayed for the next three holes. Pickerell conceded the first extra hole after Odiorne’s ball found the green in two Pickerell’s third shot missed the green and he chip wasn’t close.
