Chambers, Vandehey Claim 31st Oregon Net Championship Titles

Salem, Ore. -  On a blustery Salem Sunday, players stepped up at the premiere net-only event in Oregon, the 31st Oregon Net Championship at Creekside Golf Club.  Creekside, which played to a length of 6,086 yards for the men and 5,196 yards for the women, proved to be a challenging test with its tight, sloping fairways and quagmire of water hazards.  Champions were crowned first in the Women’s Divisions, with Addie Vandehey of Monroe, Ore. claiming the Overall Women’s Net Championship Title.

Vandehey followed up her first day net score of 64, which included eight net birdies and a net eagle, with a net score of 80 on Sunday.  Her two day net total of 144 was good enough to hold off defending champion Eva Corbin of Keizer, Ore. and Cortney Hall of West Linn, Ore. who both finished with two-day net totals of 150.  Corbin claimed the Women’s 1st Flight title and Hall took medalist honors in Women’s 2nd Flight.

In the Men’s Division, Gene Chambers of Aloha, Ore. was one of the first men’s groups to finish early Sunday afternoon, posting a 36-hole net score of 135 (66-69).  Twenty-four groups and five hours later, Chambers’ total held strong as he captured the Overall Men’s Net Championship Title.  Chambers was consistent over the two days with three net eagles, 14 net birdies and 10 net pars to go with seven net bogeys and only two net double bogeys.  Runner-up honors in the Men’s Division were shared by Billy Mooney of Creswell, Ore., Dylan Westphal of Tigard, Ore., and Frank Hoehna of Newberg, Ore who all posted two-day net totals of 139.  Mooney claimed the Men’s 5th flight title, Westphal took the Men’s 4th flight title, and Hoehna won the Men’s 2nd Flight.

In the other Men’s flights, Walt Walker claimed the Men’s 1st Flight with a net total of 143 and Mike Bien won the Men’s 3rd Flight with a 140.

The OGA Championship action continues this weekend (9/19-9/20) in Bend, Ore. with the 88th OGA Men’s Team Championship at Bend Golf & Country Club.
