Twenty-Seven Qualify for 2016 Oregon Amateur; Brooksby Medals

BANKS, ORE. – Ben Brooksby (Corvallis, Ore.) shot a 4-under 68 to earn medalist honors, and 26 others advanced to the 107th Oregon Amateur Championship through the first Oregon Amateur qualifier, held Thursday at Quail Valley Golf Course in Banks, Ore.

A total of 27 players qualified to the championship proper, held June 20-25 at Black Butte Ranch – Glaze Meadow in Black Butte Ranch, Ore.

Brooksby started his round on fire, birdieing the first three holes and parring the rest to shoot a 33 (-3) on the front nine. With just one bogey and two more birdies on the back, he completed his round at 4-under par, two shots clear of the next competitor. Keegan Brasch (Sherwood, Ore.) earned second place after firing a 2-under par 70 on Thursday.

In a four-way tie for third place, Kyle Drugge (Puyallup, Wash.), Jake Ryan (Portland, Ore.), Hunter Wescott (Portland, Ore.) and Jason Wood (Portland, Ore.) each fired a 71 (-1).

The final two qualifying spots for the championship were finalized by a three-way playoff between three players at +5 (77): Jason Lemonds (Dundee, Ore.), Alex Plusquellec (Sherwood, Ore.) and Matt Smith (Tigard, Ore.). Plusquellec and Smith earned the last two spots are emerging from the playoff.

The next Oregon Amateur qualifier will take place Saturday, June 4th at the OGA Golf Course in Woodburn, Ore.
