U.S. Open Sectional Qualifying Coming to Royal Oaks Country Club

WOODBURN, ORE. ­­– The final step in 2016 U.S. Open qualifying, the sectional qualifier, will be held at Royal Oaks Country Club in Vancouver, Wash. on Monday, June 6th.

A total of 55 players, 40 professionals and 15 amateurs, will compete for three spots in this year’s U.S. Open Championship, which will be held June 16-19 at Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pa.

Players will play 36 holes at Monday’s sectional qualifier. First round tee times begin at 7:30 AM, while second round groups will begin play at 1:00 PM. To see pairings for Monday’s U.S. Open sectional qualifier, click here.

Among the participants in Monday’s qualifier include Aaron Wise (Lake Elsinore, Calif.), who medaled at the local qualifier at Pronghorn Resort – Nicklaus Course in Bend, Ore. held last month. Wise won the Individual Title at the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship earlier this week, while helping the University of Oregon Men’s Golf Team win the overall title on Wednesday.

Also in the field are local amateurs Justin Kadin (Corvallis, Ore.), Conner Kumpula (Albany, Ore.) and Sulman Raza (Eugene, Ore.). All qualified for the sectional by advancing through the U.S. Open local qualifier held at Pronghorn Resort – Nicklaus Course in May.

Kadin won last year’s Oregon Mid-Amateur Championship, while representing the OGA at the PNGA Cup this year and last. Kumpula, who just finished his junior year at Oregon State University, won the 2014 Oregon Men’s Stroke Play Championship and was a member of last year’s Oregon team at the Morse Cup. Raza won the 2015 Oregon Men’s Stroke Play Championship and just this week won the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championships alongside his team at the University of Oregon.

Professionals who will compete on Monday include Nick Taylor (Scottsdale, Ariz.), who played collegiately at the University of Washington and currently plays on the PGA Tour; Dan Miernicke (Santee, Calif.), who played at the University of Oregon and has played on both the WEB.com and PGA Tours; Troy Kelly (Lakewood, Wash.), who played at the University of Washington and has had success on both the WEB.com and PGA Tours, and Brock Mackenzie (Scottsdale, Ariz.), who is originally from Coos Bay, Ore. and has played professionally on numerous tours since 2004.
