Ties Atop the Leaderboard After First Day of 107th Oregon Amateur Championship

BLACK BUTTE RANCH, ORE. – Two players are tied for the lead in both the Men’s and Women’s championships after the first day of stroke play qualifying at the 107th Oregon Amateur Championship, held on the Glaze Meadow Course at Black Butte Ranch in Black Butte Ranch, Ore.

UCLA golfer and accomplished former Oregon Junior Golfer Cole Madey (West Linn, Ore.) and Oregon State Beaver and fellow accomplished junior golfer in the state Kevin Murphy (Rogue River, Ore.) are tied at the top of the leaderboard after both shot impressive rounds of 4-under par 68. Two shots back at 2-under par are three players: Justin Kadin (Corvallis, Ore.), Billy Pollock (Eugene, Ore.) and Justin Wiles (Klamath Falls, Ore.).

Seven golfers fired rounds of 1-under par 71, while six players finished at even par for the round.

In the Women’s Amateur, Jenny Krause (Eugene, Ore.) and Daniele Giles (Talent, Ore.) lead the field by two strokes after battling the afternoon wind and finishing with a strong score of 73 (+1). Krause won the 2016 OGA Tournament of Champions back in April, while Giles will be attending and playing golf at the University of Oregon starting next fall.

Oregon State’s Haley Nist (Meridian, Idaho) is in third place at 3-over par, while two-time defending champion Gigi Stoll (Tigard, Ore.) is four shots back of the leaders after firing a 5-over par 77. Last year’s runner-up, Bend native and Washington State golfer Madison Odiorne (Bend, Ore.) is in fifth place at 6-over par.

Round two of stroke play qualifying will resume tomorrow at Black Butte Ranch at 8:00 AM. For Tuesday starting times, visit www.oregonamateur.org.
