CANBY, ORE. – Semifinals for all but one bracket and quarterfinals for the Junior Boys Championship Flight at the 86th Bob Norquist Oregon Junior Amateur Championship are set for Thursday, after the third day of the championship was completed Wednesday at Willamette Valley Country Club in Canby, Ore.

All brackets in each age division will play semifinal rounds on Thursday, including the Junior Boys Championship Flight. However, that division will play 36 holes tomorrow; the quarterfinals will tee off starting at 7:30 AM, and the winners of those matches will play each other in the semifinals starting at 12:30 PM.

Top-seeded Spencer Tibbits (Vancouver, Wash.) advanced into tomorrow’s quarterfinals in the junior Boys Division, beating Nicholas Timm (Portland, Ore.) 4 and 3. He’ll face Avery Keating (Lake Oswego, Ore.) in the quarterfinals.

Perhaps the biggest upset of the day was Andrew Watts (Springfield, Ore.) defeating No. 2 seed Craig Ronne (Klamath Falls, Ore.) 2 and 1. Ronne had won the first two Oregon Junior Golf majors of the year, and had won the Boys Division in last year’s Oregon Junior Amateur Championship.

In the Girls Division, defending champion Ellie Slama (Salem, Ore.) advanced to the semifinals and will play Madalyn Ardueser (Eugene, Ore.). Those two players have split wins in the first two OJG majors of 2016. In the other semifinal, Haley Grab (Pendleton, Ore.) will play Camille Dozois (Lake Oswego, Ore.).

The Boys Division features three of the top four seeds in tomorrow’s semifinals. Top-seeded Jackson Kennon (Bandon, Ore.) moved on with a 6 and 5 win over Tyler Vassar (The Dalles, Ore.). He’ll play the No. 4 seed, Nate Stember (Portland, Ore.) in the semifinals. Stember recently qualified for the 2016 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship.

The other semifinal will feature Samuel Pyon (Happy Valley, Ore.), the No. 2 seed, and sixth-seeded Austin Carnese (Portland, Ore.).

In the Intermediate Girls Division, Olivia Venderby (West Linn, Ore.), the No. 1 seed, will play Baylee Hammericksen (Medford, Ore.), the defending champion in the division. The other semifinal will include Brady Turnquist (Oregon City, Ore.) against Mary Wolfe (Beaverton, Ore.).

Scotty Kennon (Bandon, Ore.) led the way in the Intermediate Boys Division, advancing to tomorrow’s semifinals. He’ll play Owen Huntington (Camas, Wash.), the 12th seed who’s beaten the 5th and 4th seeds in the bracket thus far. In the other semifinal, second-seeded Brody Marconi (Portland, Ore.) will play the No. 3 seed, Mateo Fuenmayor (Beaverton, Ore.).

In the Pee Wee Girls Division, tomorrow’s semifinals will include Emily Song (Beaverton, Ore.) against Zoe Newell (West Linn, Ore.) and Cierra Ferguson (Lake Oswego, Ore.) versus Cassie Kennon (Bandon, Ore.). The Pee Wee Boys semifinals will feature Elliot Lee (Tillamook, Ore.) against Isaac Stouder (Happy Valley, Ore.) and Simon Grey (Lake Oswego, Ore.) against Eli Huntington (Camas, Wash.).
