Samuel Pyon, May Wang Win Open Divisions at 2016 Portland City/Bob Allard Memorial; Hogan Cup Teams Announced

PORTLAND, ORE. – Samuel Pyon (Happy Valley, Ore.) and May Wang (Portland, Ore.) earned wins in their respective open divisions at the 2016 Portland City/Bob Allard Memorial, held August 1-2 at Rose City Golf Club in Portland, Ore. After the round, both teams that will represent Oregon Junior Golf at next week’s 48th Hogan Cup Team Matches were announced.

Pyon won in a four-person playoff, as all players tied at 145 (+1) after two rounds. Along with Pyon, the other players in the playoff included Jackson Kennon (Bandon, Ore.), Brody Hval (Portland, Ore.) and Nicholas Timm (Portland, Ore.). After Pyon, Kennon and Hval all parred the first two holes, Pyon ended up two-putting the par-5 3rd hole for birdie and the Boys Open Division title.

In the Girls Open Division, Wang led wire-to-wire, shooting 76-73 – 149 (+3). She bested Victoria Gailey (Tigard, Ore.) by six shots. Gailey finished the event by shooting 78-77 – 155 (+9). Emma Cox (Camas, Wash.), Summer Marshall (West Linn, Ore.) and Ashley Zhu (Salem, Ore.) all tied for third, finishing the 36-hole tournament with a 157 total (+11).

On Tuesday afternoon, both Oregon Junior Golf teams that will play at next week’s 48th Hogan Cup were announced. They are:

The 48th Hogan Cup Team Matches will be held August 13-14, 2016 at Riverside Golf & Country Club in Portland, Ore.

Tyler Jones (Vancouver, Wash.) earned the win in the Junior Boys Division, shooting scores of 77-81 – 158 (+14). Sean Murray (Camas, Wash.) finished in second place, finishing with a 81-85 – 166 (+22) two-day total. Aerin Song (Beaverton, Ore.) won the Girls Division with scores of 81-87 – 168 (+22), while Melia Nordberg (Beaverton, Ore.) earned second place, shooting 86-85 – 171 (+25).

In the Boys Division, Johnny Ward (Lake Oswego, Ore.) played impressively over the two-day event, finishing with scores of 73-70 – 143 (-1) to win by four shots over Jacob Tarkany (Bend, Ore.). Tarkany shot 76-71 – 147 (+3) in the tournament.

Elise Deschaine (Portland, Ore.) earned the win in the Intermediate Girls Division, shooting 85-80 – 165 (+19). Yvonne Vinceri (Portland, Ore.) finished just one shot back, with scores of 83-83 – 166 (+20), while Brady Turnquist (Oregon City, Ore.) earned third place with scores of 85-82 – 167 (+21). Scotty Kennon (Bandon, Ore.) shot the low 36-hole total for the tournament, finishing with scores of 70-72 – 142 (-2) to win the Intermediate Boys Division by three shots over Mateo Fuenmayor (Beaverton, Ore.), who finished with scores of 74-71 – 145 (+1).

Jade Gruher (Camas, Wash.) won the Pee Wee Girls 10-11 Division with scores of 43-44 – 87 (+17), while Natalie Yen (West Linn, Ore.) won the Pee Wee Girls 8-9 Division, shooting 45-45 – 90 (+20). Messiah Gilbert (Williams, Ore.) earned the win in the Pee Wee Boys 10-11 Division with scores of 40-37 – 77 (+3), and in the Pee Wee Boys 8-9 Division, Drew Woolworth (Lake Oswego, Ore.) won with scores of 45-41 – 86 (+16).
