64th Oregon Men's Stroke Play Championship Begins Friday at Centennial Golf Club
MEDFORD, ORE. – The 64th edition of the Oregon Men’s Stroke Play Championship will begin this Friday, August 5th, running through Sunday, August 7th at Centennial Golf Club in Medford, Ore.
The Championship will include 54-holes of stroke play, and consists of three divisions: Open Division, Senior Division and Master-40 Division. The field in each division will be cut in half, including ties, after 36-holes.
This year’s Open Division field is highlighted by Conner Barr (Beaverton, Ore.), the winner of this year’s Oregon Amateur Championship held back in June at Black Butte Ranch – Glaze Meadow. He’ll play in the first group on Friday with Conner Kumpula (Albany, Ore.), who won the Oregon Men’s Stroke Play in 2014, and Justin Kadin (Corvallis, Ore.), who’s coming off representing Oregon at the 2016 Morse Cup during last week’s Pacific Coast Amateur Championship.
Also in the field is Brian Humphreys (Washougal, Wash.), runner-up to Barr in this year’s Oregon Amateur, as well as Montana Frame (Reedsport, Ore.) and Alex Wrenn (Lake Oswego, Ore.), who both advanced to the semifinals of the 2016 Oregon Amateur.
University of Oregon golfer Nigel Lett (Beaverton, Ore.) is playing, as well as incoming freshman Kevin Geniza (Corvallis, Ore.). Kevin Murphy (Rogue River, Ore.), along with Kumpula, are representing Oregon State University this weekend.
Pat O’Donnell (Happy Valley, Ore.) is in this year’s field, and will attempt to defend his title in the Senior Division. He’ll be challenged by a number of experienced senior golfers, including Bob Harrington (Portland, Ore.), who was the medalist at his 2016 Oregon Amateur qualifier and advanced to the round of 32 in the championship proper.
Also in the field is Denny Taylor (Gladstone, Ore.), a past Oregon Mid-Amateur champion who advanced to the semifinals of last year’s Oregon Senior Amateur Championship, as well as Tom Prevost (McMinnville, Ore.), who qualified for the 2015 U.S. Senior Amateur Championship.
In the Master-40 Division, defending champion Jim Dunlap (Beaverton, Ore.) is back to defend his title. Also in the field is Jeff Ward (Bend, Ore.), who earlier this year advanced to the quarterfinals of the Oregon Amateur. Ward won the PNGA Men’s Mid-Amateur in 2014.
