Impressive Rounds, Close Finishes Highlight 2016 OGA Tour Finale

BEND, ORE. - After 32 regular season OGA Tour events, the 2016 tour season came to a close with the 7th OGA Tour Championship, held Saturday and Sunday, October 1-2 at Pronghorn Resort in Bend, Ore.

The Championship, in which tour players had to qualify for over the regular season, featured two championships: Individual Series and Partner Series. Within those championships were two flights: Open and Senior. Both championships included Gross and Net titles.

Play on Saturday took place on the Nicklaus Course, while Sunday’s round was held on the Fazio Course.

In the Individual Series, Scott Dwyer (Stayton, Ore.) finished strong to win his third-consecutive Gross title in the Open Division. He shot round of 82-73 – 155 (+11) to win by four shots. Finishing in second place was Michael Jackson (Redmond, Ore.), who rebounded from a difficult first round to skyrocket up the leaderboard on Sunday. His tournament total finished with rounds of 88-71 – 159 (+15).

Brad Carey Sr. (Lake Oswego, Ore.) earned the Individual Series Senior Division title with scores of 80-78 – 158 (+14). Rick Sahli (Tigard, Ore.) finished two shots behind, shooting 78-82 – 160 (+16) for the weekend.

On the Net side, Aaron Stevens (Portland, Ore.) emerged from a crowded top of the leaderboard to win the Open Division by two shots, finishing with net scores of 77-70 – 147 (+3). Neil Kaska (Westlake, Ore.) earned second place, winning in a scorecard playoff over Tom Rigsbee (Welches, Ore.), who finished in third. Both players ended up at 149 (+5) net in the Open Division.

Robert Bourne (Oregon City, Ore.) played two consistent rounds to win the Senior Net title, finishing with a two-day net total of 69-69 – 138 (-6). Gary Hottel (Oregon City, Ore.) shot 69-73 – 143 (-1) net to earn second place in the Senior Division.

In the Partner Series Open Division, the team of Adam Reed (Portland, Ore.) and Douglas Smith (Beaverton, Ore.) fired a sizzling second-round score of 3-under par (69) to win the Gross title by four shots. Their two-day total ended up at 75-69 – 144 (E). Runner-ups Kevin Simons (Portland, Ore.) and Ryan Patterson (Portland, Ore.) finished the event with scores of 73-75 – 148 (+4).

The squad of Michael Delk (Salem, Ore.) and Stan Pynch (Salem, Ore.) took home the Senior Gross title in the Partner Series, finishing the championship with scores of 74-74 – 148 (+4) to win by a margin of eight shots. Don Olson (Sunriver, Ore.) and Scott Brown (Sunriver, Ore.) earned second place, firing scores of 78-78 – 156 (+12).

On the Net side in the Open Division, the side of Craig Olson (Aloha, Ore.) and Ross Bellingham (Portland, Ore.) took first place, pulling away from the rest of the field with an outstanding Sunday round. They finished the championship with net rounds of 67-62 – 129 (-15), three shots better than the second place team of Alex Kepel (Beaverton, Ore.) and Ron Loggins (Hillsboro, Ore.), who finished at 12-under par (132) for the two-day event.

In the Senior Division of the Partner Series, the team of Kathy Wentworth (Portland, Ore.) and Tammy Smith (Portland, Ore.) ran away with the net title, firing stellar rounds of 64-62 – 126 (-18). Finishing nine shots back and in second place were the side of Al Stautz (Ridgefield, Wash.) and John Hansen (Vancouver, Wash.), shooting scores of 72-63 – 135 (-9).
