Champions Crowned at 2016 Women's Interclub Play Championship
ALOHA, ORE. - The 2016 Women’s Interclub Play season came to a close last week, as the Championship took place on Wednesday, October 5th
at The Reserve Vineyards and Golf Club in Aloha, Ore. The Women’s Interclub Play season consisted of 19 OGA Member Clubs from Ridgefield, Wash. to Lebanon, Ore. competing in three divisions. The season included a total of five matches where teams played Four-Ball Match Play with Gross, Net and Overall points against the other teams in their Division. At the end of the five matches, three Division Champions were crowned. In Division 1, Persimmon Country Club (Gresham, Ore.); In Division 2, The Oregon Golf Club (West Linn, Ore.) and Stone Creek Golf Club (Oregon City, Ore.) in Division 3.
Each club brought eight players to compete for the 2016 Women’s Interclub Play Championship, playing two matches against the other two Division Champions. The format was the same as the regular season, Four-Ball Match Play with Gross, Net and Overall points. The championship matches were very close, but when the points were tallied, Persimmon Country Club came out as the winner earning 13 points. Stone Creek Golf Club would earn 12 points and The Oregon Golf Club 11 points on the day.
New in 2016, the WIP Steering Committee added a Gross and a Net Champion in each division to allow more clubs to earn their way into the Championship at the end of the season. The 2016 Gross Division Champions were Heron Lakes Golf Club (Portland, Ore.), Mallard Creek Golf Club (Lebanon, Ore.) and Rock Creek Country Club (Portland, Ore.). Each Gross and Net Champion club would also bring eight players to the championship and play two matches against the other two division winners. Heron Lakes would emerge as the 2016 Women’s Interclub Play Gross Champion, earning 15 points in the championship matches. Rock Creek would finish with 14 points and Mallard Creek with 7 points.
The 2016 Net Division Champions were Eastmoreland Golf Club (Portland, Ore.), Forest Hills Golf Club (Cornelius, Ore.) and Tri-Mountain Club (Ridgefield, Wash.). Forest Hills earned 20.5 points during the Championship and earned the title of the 2016 WIP Net Champion. Eastmoreland would finish with 8.5 points and Tri-Mountain with 7 points.
A consolation match also took place on Wednesday for the teams that did not win their division. Teams competed in a 2-person scramble with three teams of two players. Teams would take their best gross and net score on each hole to post a team score. Executive Women’s Golf Association (Portland, Ore.) would win the gross award finishing with a team score of 71 (-1). OGA Women’s Golf Club (Woodburn, Ore.) won the Net award with a score of 61 (-11).
Thank you to all the teams that participated in the 2016 Women’s Interclub Play Season and Season Finale. This was the 3rd year of the Women’s Interclub Play program. Registration for the 2017 season will start in February.
