OGA Announces 2016 Annual Award Recipients

Every year, the OGA gives out its Annual Awards to members, clubs, PGA Professionals and more for their commitment and diligence in working with the OGA, with their community and with other allied golf organizations. These awards were presented at this year’s OGA Annual Meeting, held October 24th at Portland Golf Club in Portland, Ore.

Sharing Member of the Year honors were Selma Cusick of Crooked River Ranch Golf Club and Ken Forster of Illahe Hills Country Club. Both individuals distinctively set themselves apart by the work they did in 2016 and in past years with their club and with their home facility.

OGA Club of the Year went to the Member Club at Black Butte Ranch, presented to OGA Directors Judy and Owen Osborne. Not only is the club a model club for others in the region, the membership spent countless hours volunteering for the 2016 Oregon Amateur Championship, held at the facility at Glaze Meadow Golf Course. Jeff Fought, PGA Director of Golf at Black Butte Ranch, was honored as Club Executive of the Year for diligently working with the OGA and others in helping organize this year’s Oregon Amateur.

The 2016 PGA Professional of the Year went to Tracy Snyder of Rogue Valley Country Club. Tracy, at the facility since 2012, has worked hand-in-hand with the OGA and Oregon Junior Golf in running events and qualifiers, also sitting on the Education Committee for the Oregon Chapter PGA.

Two outstanding individuals were awarded with OGA Superintendent of the Year – Steve Reynolds of Meadow Lakes Golf Club and Dave Stephens of Eagle Point Golf Club. Both supers, who have been with their respective facility for a number of years, are highly regarded around Oregon and the Northwest and were recognized for their hard work in keeping their golf courses in fantastic shape and doing the little things.

Guy Demars was awarded as the 2016 Handicap Chair of the Year for his work with the Stone Creek Men’s Club. Facility of the Year was given to Eugene Country Club, as the course hosted both the Men’s and Women’s NCAA Division I Golf Championships in 2016 and is undergoing a major clubhouse renovation.

This year’s Dale Johnson Media Award went to Tom Hewitt and Conan Elliott, hosts of Teeing it Up, a weekly radio program in Portland and the surrounding area featuring golf leaders from around the Pacific Northwest. Their show takes them across the region, visiting courses and facilities while discussing prominent golf stories and issues.

Lastly, the Community Impact Award was presented to the PGA Professional staff at RiverRidge Golf Complex. Their group of five-plus individuals strive to grow the game, from Get Golf Ready classes to forming PGA Junior League teams.

Congratulations to all of our 2016 Annual Award winners!
