CRESWELL, ORE. – Leilani Norman (Eugene, Ore.) and Lisa Smego (Olympia, Wash.) advanced through quarterfinal and semifinal matches on Tuesday, and will play each other on Wednesday morning in the final of this year’s Oregon Senior Women’s Amateur Championship, held at Emerald Valley Golf and Resort in Creswell, Ore.

In the Men’s Division, the field in the Championship Flight was cut to the final eight players, as Round-of-32 and Round-of-16 matches were held on Tuesday. Quarterfinal and semifinal matches will be held on Wednesday.

Norman, the 2013 champion, defeated Anita Wicks (Roseburg, Ore.) in the first quarterfinal of the morning, 2-up. The match was all-square heading into the 17th hole, but Norman won that hole with a par and then won the 18th hole to seal her victory.

In Norman’s semifinal match against stroke play medalist Debbie Friede (Washougal, Wash.), she was 4-up after 11 holes. Friede would win holes 12-14 to cut the deficit to only one-down, but Norman held on to advance to the final match.

Smego defeated Ginny Burkey (Eugene, Ore.) in her quarterfinal match, 3 and 1. In Smego’s semifinal match against defending champion Loree McKay (Hillsboro, Ore.), she was on fire. Smego won four holes on the front nine and was 3-up on the turn, then won holes 11-13 to win the match, 6 and 5. Smego is playing for her first Oregon Senior Women’s title, although she’s won three Washington State Senior Women’s Championships.

The Championship match in the Women’s Division will tee off at 8:15 AM on Wednesday.

The Men’s Division Quarterfinals will feature top-seeded Randy Mahar (Portland, Ore.) against three-time champion Scott Hval (Portland, Ore.). The winner of that match will face off against either Denny Taylor (Gladstone, Ore.) or three-time champion Chris Maletis (Portland, Ore.)

On the other side of the bracket, defending champion Pat O’Donnell (Happy Valley, Ore.) will battle John Qualman (Eugene, Ore.). The winner of that match will play either Michael Kloenne (West Linn, Ore.) or Billy Anderson (Eugene, Ore.).

Quarterfinal matches will begin at 7:30 AM on Wednesday, with Semifinal matches commencing at 12:30 PM.
