OGA Competitors Show Skill at U.S. Women's Amateur Four-Ball
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Three frequent OGA competitors made their mark this week at the 2017 U.S. Women's Amateur Four-Ball Championship, held at The Dunes Golf & Beach Club in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Ellen Secor (Portland, Ore.), Ellie Slama (Salem, Ore.), and Monica Vaughn (Reedsport, Ore.) all played in the 3rd edition of the event, and all advanced through stroke play qualifying to match play. Vaughn and her playing partner, Bailey Tardy, earned the No. 4 seed out of stroke play and advanced to Tuesday's quarterfinals, where they fell to the No. 5 seed, Jennifer Chang/Gina Kim. Vaughn was coming off a historic week in which she won the NCAA Division I Women's Golf Individual Championship, then helped her Arizona State squad win the team title.
Slama and her teammate, fellow Oregon State commit Amanda Minni, earned the No. 7 seed out of stroke play after being tied for first in after Saturday's first round. They won their roudn fo 32 match but fell in the round of 16, 2 and 1 to Linyu Dong/Rose Zhang.
Secor, who plays collegiately at Colorado State University, played with college teammate Katrina Prendergast. Their side earned the No. 20 seed, and advanced past the round of 32 only to face the side of Vaughn/Tardy with a spot in the quarterfinals on the line. Vaughn/Tardy would go on to win the match, 4 and 3.
