OGA Official Statement on Association Activities During the Coronavirus Concern
April 30, 2020
As we continue to monitor the status of Covid-19 (Coronavirus) and keep updated on national and state directives from government and health authorities, the safety and wellbeing of our members, players, staff, host sites, volunteers and allied partners remains our top priority. Because of this, the OGA has made the decision to extend its cancelation of all organized events until June 1.
Additional COVID-19 Information:
This includes OGA qualifiers, OGA Tour events, WHS seminars and other organized events. As indicated in our previous announcement, all entry fees previously paid for an event that has been cancelled will be fully refunded.
We are hopeful that by the first of June we will be able to host our scheduled tournaments for the remainder of the year, depending on any new developments between now and then. We will keep everyone apprised of our plans moving forward.
Our goal is to get back to conducting our competitions, educational seminars and other events just as soon as it is safe to do so. We wish to thank all of our constituents for their support and understanding during these unprecedented times and we encourage everyone to follow the recommended guidelines of the CDC to assist them in remaining safe and healthy.

OGA Official Statement on Association Activities during the Coronavirus Concern – 3/13/2020
The Oregon Golf Association shares the concern about the coronavirus and the questions this crisis presents. The health and wellbeing of our members and the general public is always paramount. The goal, of course, in any moment of public health concern is to be guided by expert information, grounded in scientific and medical data, and sourced from public health and government authorities.
For information on this health concern, please read this Covid-19 website which gives you ways to stymie the Covid-19 virus as best as possible.
In an effort to act as a responsible member of the community by helping curb the spread of the virus by social distancing, the OGA has made the decision, as of 3/13/20, to cancel all organized events until April. This includes Oregon Junior Golf tournaments and OGA Tour events as well as scheduled Rules workshops and WHS seminars during that time. If you have registered for an event that has now been cancelled, we will automatically refund your entry fee.
This is a continually evolving situation and we will update our plans and policies accordingly, based on information we receive from all health and governmental authorities.
We hope that everyone will follow the advice of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and our local and state health authorities to lessen the risk of accidental transmission of the COVID-19 virus. The OGA will continue to monitor this situation with the hope that there will soon be a slowdown or remission of this pandemic and the Association can return to its normal cadence of activity. Updates will be provided on our website as things transpire.
In the mean time, we wish to remind everyone of ways to help stay safe:
- Wash your hands. If you can't wash them on the course, please use hand sanitizer.
- Don't touch your face, including your mouth, nose, lips or eyes.
- Sanitize objects that lots of people touch, or that you touch often (including your phone!). (Note: The Rules of Golf allow players to keep the flagstick in the hole)
- Practice social distancing. Stay 6 feet apart.
- If you are sick or at risk, please stay home.
- No handshakes & hugs– This will be difficult, but out of caution, we are asking our staff, volunteer officials, and players to suspend the practice of shaking hands and hugging. This includes on the 1st tee and on the 18th green where a friendly handshake or hug have been long standing acts of proper sportsmanship. As an alternative, we recommend a friendly nod, a tip of your cap, or a simple wave or elbow touch as a form of greeting or sportsmanship.
-
Those who are at the highest risk are:
- Older adults
-
Those with heart disease, diabetes and lung disease
