One-in-a-Million Day at Central Oregon Junior
Prineville, OR – Not many people are able to see a truly one-in-a-million event in their lifetime, but a junior golfer had one in the first round of the Central Oregon Junior. Tate Lightle (Lakeview, OR) scored an Albatross (commonly known as a “Double Eagle”) on the par-5 third hole at Meadow Lakes Golf Course. An albatross is a score of 3-under-par on a single hole. While many estimate the odds of such a feat at 6-million-to-1, Oregon Junior Golf is siding with Dean Knuth, inventor of the USGA’s slope rating system, who estimates the odds are closer to 1-million-to-1. Actually, even Tiger Woods and Arnold Palmer have never recorded an albatross in a tournament round. Congratulations to Tate Lightle.
In the Boys Open 14-17 Division, Bryce Wortman leads the day with a score of 6-under-par. Wortman is followed by Benjamin Gruher at 4-under-par and Joshua Wu at 3-under-par.
For the Girls Open 12-17 Division, Madalyn Ardueser leads the field with a score of even-par. Victoria Gailey and Camden Decker are also vying for the top spot, entering the final round tied for second after total scores of 6-over-par.
The Junior Boys 16-17 Division is led by Jamie Allen, Zachary Peros, and Jacob Miller, all of whom scored rounds of 4-over-par to open the tournament.
The Girls 15-17 Division is led by Katie Williams, who scored a round of 13-over-par on the first day. Williams is trailed most closely by Mary Jane Anderson and Taylor Tarshis.
Reece Boyce leads the Boys 14-15 Division after a round of even-par. Boyce is followed by Keith Lobis and Luke Simoneau.
In the Intermediate Girls 12-14 Division, Olivia Venderby leads after an opening round of 9-over-par. Venderby is trailed most closely by Heejung Kang and Tannica Porter.
The Intermediate Boys 12-13 Division is led by Danny Hext and Isaac Buerger after rounds of 2-over-par each. The pair are trailed most closely by Nicholas Watts and Brandon Eyre, who are tied for third after rounds of 4-over-par.
In the PeeWee Divisions, Lucas Hughes leads the Boys 10-11 Division after a round of 1-over-par. Jade Gruher leads the Girls 10-11 Division after a round of 10-over-par. Messiah Gilbert leads the Boys 8-9 Division after a round of 6-over-par. Natalie Yen and Jacinda Lee are tied at the top of the Girls 8-9 Division after rounds of 7-over-par.
