Oregon Junior Amateur Championship Narrows Down to Quarterfinal, Semifinal Matches
The 84th Bob Norquist Oregon Junior Amateur Championship is now more than halfway to the championship finals, with match play continuing tomorrow, Thursday, June 26 at Waverley Country Club in Portland, Ore.
All divisions and flights, with the exception of the Championship and 1st flights of the Juniors Division, will compete in semifinal matches on Thursday. The Championship and 1st flights of the Juniors Division will play 36 holes tomorrow, beginning with quarterfinal matches in the morning and concluding with semifinal play in the afternoon.
With temperatures varying between the low and mid 70’s, but humidity around 60%-70%, it was a muggy day at Waverley on Wednesday. But the rain held off for almost the entire day, and the course was once again in pristine condition.
An exciting moment occurred on Wednesday for Walter Sherry, who made a hole-in-one on the par-3 6th hole. Sherry, who plays in the Juniors Division, made a difficult pin placement look like an easy one.
“It was a pretty good shot,” said Sherry, who knocked in his second career hole-in-one using a 6-iron. “It rolled down towards the hole and hit the pin. Got kind of lucky because it was going pretty fast, but pretty good I guess. I’ll take it. [I’m] pretty happy.”
The 84th Bob Norquist Oregon Junior Amateur Championship runs from June 23rd-27th, and is held at Waverley Country Club in Portland, Ore.
