Oregon Students Receive Full Rides to College Through Caddying
Eleven Oregon students were recently awarded the WGA's Chick Evans Scholarship, a complete, four-year housing and tuition scholarship offered to high achieving golf caddies.
The OGA donates $1 for each OGA Member (who joins in a specific calendar year) to the Western Golf Association to help fund the Evans Caddie Scholarship Program in the state of Oregon.
The following Oregon residents were awarded:
- Hunter Angrove (Bandon, Bandon High School)
- Trevor Angrove (Bandon, Bandon High School)
- Ansen Converse (Bandon, Bandon High School)
- Andrew Robertson (Bandon, Bandon High School)
- Nathan Williamson (Beaverton, Jesuit High School)
- Molly Beyer (McMinnville, McMinnville High School)
- Simon Abraha (Portland, La Salle Catholic Prep)
- Ava Arias (Portland, Leodis V. McDaniel High School)
- Mohamed Bullo (Portland, De La Salle North Catholic High School)
- Lisa Chen (Portland, Franklin High School)
-
Tommy Nguyen (Portland, Franklin High School)
Over the course of four years, the scholarship is worth an estimated $120,000. Each caddy's story is unique, reflecting the scholarship's four selection criteria: a good caddie record, exceptional grades, documented financial need, and exceptional character.
The Evans Scholarship is slated to be awarded to 315 caddies from across the country this year. Currently, a record 1,070 caddies are enrolled at 21 universities across the nation as Evans Scholars, and more than 11,500 caddies have graduated as Evans Scholars.
