Ronne, Gailey Win Open Divisions at Portland City/Bob Allard Memorial; Hogan Cup Teams Announced
PORTLAND, ORE. – Craig Ronne (Klamath Falls, Ore.) won his second consecutive Portland City/Bob Allard Memorial title on Tuesday, and Victoria Gailey (Tigard, Ore.) won the Girls Open Division after two days of competition at Rose City Golf Course in Portland, Ore.
Ronne fired a two-day total of 73-71 – 144 (E) to come back from six shots down and take home the Boys Open Division title for the second straight year. First-round leader Brock Anderson (Lake Oswego, Ore.), who shot a blistering 5-under par 67 on Monday, fell back after a 78 on Tuesday, finishing in a tie for second place with Brian Humphreys (Washougal, Wash.). Humphreys’ two-day total of 145 (71-74), along with Anderson, put them three shots ahead of Benjamin Gruher (Camas, Wash.) and Joshua Wu (Medford, Ore.), who tied for fourth place at 148 (+4).
In the Girls Open Division, it was Gailey who weathered the wind and fast conditions of both days to win by four shots. Gailey shot 77-79 – 156 (+10), while Shelby Greb (Pendleton, Ore.), Camille Dozois (Lake Oswego, Ore.) and Raksa Nhoung (Hillsboro, Ore.) tied for second place at 160 (+14).
Avery Keating (Lake Oswego, Ore.) won the Junior Boys Division, with a two-day total of 80-72 – 152 (+8). Hayden Meeker (Camas, Wash.) earned second place with scores of 81-74 – 155. In the Girls Division, Karsyn Rushing (Vancouver, Wash.) won first place after scores of 83-88 – 171.
Jackson Kennon (Bandon, Ore.) completed two days of stellar play to win the Boys Division, shooting 76-71 – 147 (+3). Nate Stember (Portland, Ore.) finished one shot back after rounds of 75-73 – 148, while Samuel Pyon (Happy Valley, Ore.) earned third place with scores of 75-74 – 149.
In the Intermediate Girls Division, Olivia Venderby (West Linn, Ore.) won comfortably, shooting rounds of 82-79 – 161 (+15). She finished 12 shots ahead of second place finisher Heejung Kang (Portland, Ore.), who shot scores of 89-84 – 173. Scotty Kennon (Bandon, Ore.) earned low score for the 36-hole event, shooting 69-72 – 141 (-3) to win the Intermediate Boys Division by three shots over Isaac Buerger (Redmond, Ore.).
In the Pee Wee Boys 10-11 Division, Arthur Venderby (West Linn, Ore.) earned the win with rounds of 42-40 – 82 (+6). Ethan Tseng (Portland, Ore.) won second place after shooting 43-40 – 83. Alex Tseng (Portland, Ore.) won the Pee Wee Boys 8-9 Division with scores of 48-44 – 92.
In the Pee Wee Girls 10-11 Division, Annika Yeh (Vancouver, Wash.) won with a two-day total of 50-43 – 93. Jacinda Lee (Camas, Wash.) won the Pee Wee Girls 8-9 Division, shooting 47-53-100.
After completion of Tuesday’s round, the two Hogan Cup teams were announced for 2015. Taking place August 7-9 at Riverside Golf & Country Club in Portland, the Hogan Cup is a 36-hole team competition that pits the best junior golfers from the Western United States and Canada against each other in a team format with the three lowest scores each day determining the team total.
