Semifinals Set for Oregon Junior Amateur; Junior Boys to Play Quarterfinals and Semifinals Thursday
REDMOND, ORE. – In a day full of close calls, extra holes and warm weather, the semifinals are set for all but one division at the 85th Bob Norquist Oregon Junior Amateur Championship, held at Eagle Crest Resort – Ridge Course in Redmond, Ore. The Championship Flight and 1st Flight in the Junior Boys Division will play 36 holes tomorrow, consisting of quarterfinal and semifinal matches.
All other divisions will play only semifinal matches on Thursday. In the quarterfinal matches in the Girls Division, the top three seeds advanced to the semifinals. Top-seeded Ellie Slama (Salem, Ore.) defeated Amanda Elich (West Linn, Ore.) 2-up, and she will play the No. 4 seed Iliana Telles (The Dalles, Ore.) in the semifinals. Telles won 1-up over Rachel Drgastin (Bend, Ore.).
The other semifinal in the Girls Division will pit No. 2 seed Ellen Secor (Portland, Ore.) against 14-seed Taylor Hartley (Vancouver, Wash.). Secor won 4 & 3 over Victoria Gailey (Tigard, Ore.), while Hartley upset the No. 6 seed Jennifer Krause (Eugene, Ore.) 5 & 3.
In all divisions, with the exception of the Junior Boys Division due to the quarterfinal matches being played tomorrow, the top seed in the Championship bracket advanced to the semifinal. Bryce Wortman (Klamath Falls, Ore.), the medalist in the Junior Boys Division, won the 18th hole with an eagle to force a 19th hole against Kevin Geniza (Corvallis, Ore.). Wortman would win the extra hole and advance to tomorrow’s quarterfinal against Jack Loberg (Bend, Ore.). The second seed, Spencer Tibbits (Vancouver, Wash.), won the 18th hole to win 1-up over Kevin Orr (Portland, Ore.).
Tee times begin on Thursday at 7:30 AM and go until 1:00 PM, with the semifinal matches of the Girls Division taking place at 9:00 AM, and the semifinals of the Junior Boys Division taking place at 12:30 and 12:40 PM.
