The 112th Oregon Amateur Championship field has narrowed after 36 holes of stroke play qualifying which transpired Monday and Tuesday at Bandon Trails Golf Course in Bandon, Ore.

Two-time champion Ellie Slama (69-74) earned medalist honors on the women’s side, while Nate Stember (72-66) took honors on the men’s side in the early portion of the grueling six-day competition.

Stember, of Portland, earned the top seed for match play with his 4-under par effort, posting the best round during stroke play qualifying on Tuesday. He dropped in 10 birdies – six on the front – in including four straight on holes No. 6-9.

On the women’s side it was Slama, who won the event in 2018 and 2019, finishing the qualifying at 1-under par. She fired Monday’s lone round under par carding a 3-under 69, a round that featured five birdies offset by a pair of bogeys. She posted a 74 on Tuesday, making the turn at 2-over par before shooting even on the back nine.

Victoria Gailey (80-69), from Tigard, will take the No. 2 seed into the match play portion of the event. She posted Tuesday’s low round, a 3-under par 69 which featured four birdies.

Defending champion Amanda Jacobs (76-76) finished third, while Kyra Ly (76-77) and Gretchen Johnson (79-74) tied for fourth.

Round one of match play for both the men’s and women’s divisions begins Wednesday. The men’s division plays rounds two and three on Thursday, the quarterfinal and semifinal matches on Friday, and the 36-hole final match on Saturday.

Six players with a score of 156 will be involved in a playoff for the last four remaining spots into the men's Oregon Amateur match play field. The playoff will be held Wednesday at 7:30am on Hole No. 7.

Beginning Wednesday is the Oregon Senior Women’s Amateur Championship which will also be played at Bandon Trails. It includes one stroke play qualifying round, followed by three rounds of match play.

Leading that field is four-time defending champion, Lara Tennant, who is looking to add a fifth title in as many years.
