Team Oregon #1 Leads After Day One of 48th Hogan Cup; Pyon, Kaneshiro Tied For Individual Lead
PORTLAND, ORE. – Team Oregon #1 holds a one shot lead going into the final day of the 48th Eddie Hogan Cup Team Matches,
being held August 13-14, 2016 at Riverside Golf & Country Club in Portland, Ore. Team Hawaii’s Zackary Kaneshiro and Team Oregon #1’s Samuel Pyon share the individual lead after the first day of play.
Team Oregon #1 shot a combined score of 217 (+1) on Saturday, one shot better than Team Washington, who is in second place. Team Oregon #1 was led by Pyon, who fired a 3-under par 69 to share the individual lead with Hawaii’s Kaneshiro. Pyon was boosted by holing out his second shot on the par-4 second hole for an eagle.
Southern California and Arizona are tied for third place after both teams fired scores of 223 (+7). Defending champion Hawaii is in fifth place at 225 (+9). Team Oregon #2 sits in a tie for ninth place, firing a first-round total of 230 (+14).
Behind Pyon and Kaneshiro is Washington’s RJ Manke and Arizona’s Brian Seo at 2-under par (70). Four players are tied for fifth place at even par: Colten Cordingley (Idaho), Zihao Jin (San Diego), Charles Reiter (Southern California) and Tyler Ward (Northern California). Cordingley made an ace on the par-3 fourth hole.
Sunday’s final round begins at 9:55 AM, with the final group teeing off at 12:10 PM.
