Three Players Advance to U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur

WARRENTON, ORE. (AUGUST 18, 2016)–Nine players took to the course at the wind-swept fairways of Astoria Golf & Country Club in attempt to claim one of three qualifying spots for the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur.

Amanda Jacobs (Portland, Ore.) and Debbie Friede (Washougal, Wa.) managed the coastal breeze better than anyone else on the day en route to co-medalist honors. Both Jacobs and Friede shot six-over par 78 to tie for the top spot and advance to the national tournament. This is Jacobs third time earning medalist honors in a U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur qualifier. Karen Madison (East Wenatchee, Wash.) claimed the third and final qualifying spot, finishing two shots off the pace with an eight-over par 80.

Vanessa Sinclair (Boise, Idaho) and Shawn Farmer-Sese (Renton, Wash.) both finished with 10-over par 82s. Sinclair won a playoff against Farmer-Sese to claim the first alternate spot, while Farmer-Sese fell into the second alternate position.

The 2016 U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship will be held September 10-15 at The Kahkwa Club in Erie, Pa. The Kahkwa Club has hosted many championships in its time, most notably the 1971 U.S. Women’s Open and 2004 U.S. Women’s Amateur.
