Three Qualify for 2015 U.S. Amateur Championship
VANCOUVER, WASH. - Chris Babcock (Shoreline, Wash.), Kyle Cornett (Mill Creek, Wash.) and Arthur Kim (Tigard, Ore.) all advanced through 2015 U.S. Amateur Sectional Qualifying Monday at Royal Oaks Country Club in Vancouver, Wash. and to this year's U.S. Amateur Championship, which will be held at Olympia Fields Country Club in Olympia Fields, Ill. from August 17-23.
The top three scores advanced to this year's U.S. Amateur Championship, while the next best two scores were named alternates.
Babcock, who plays golf at the University of Washington, earned medalist honors in the 36-hole qualifier, finishing with scores of 69-72 - 141 (-3). Cornett finished in second, shooting 70-72 - 142 (-2) over two rounds. The Seattle University golfer finished one shot ahead of Kim, who defeated Oregon State golfer Brian Jung (Corvallis, Ore.) in a playoff for the third and final qualifying spot. Both golfers were at 143 (-1) after 36 holes. Kim played collegiate golf at the University of Nevada - Las Vegas.
Jung is the first alternate, while Spencer Weiss (Sammamish, Wash.) earned the second alternate spot after defeating Patrick Nugent (Olympia, Wash.) in a playoff, since both players shot 144 (E).
