Tibbits Falls One Stroke Short, Misses Cut at U.S.Open
Spencer Tibbits (74-71-146) narrowly missed the cut at the 2019 U.S. Open Championship played at Pebble Beach Golf Links. He shot even par on Friday – tallying four birdies and four bogeys – but finished 3-over par for the event (cut line was +2).
Tibbits, from Vancouver, Wash., was one of 15 amateur players competing in the national championship. Four amateurs advanced to weekend play.
Tibbits carded a 3-over par 74 in the first round, opening 1-under through the first six holes, with birdies at No. 4 and 6, and a bogey in between on No. 5. Tibbits, who was even par on the front nine, had three bogeys on the back nine to finish the round in 98th place.
Tibbits qualified for the U.S. Open Championship through a local qualifier at Gold Mountain Golf Course in Bremerton, Wash., followed by the sectional at Wine Valley Golf Club in Walla Walla.
