Tibbits, Slama Lead After Day Two of Oregon Junior Stroke Play; Cuts Made for Thursday's Final Round
WOODBURN, ORE. – Spencer Tibbits (Vancouver, Wash.) and Ellie Slama (Salem, Ore.) lead their respective divisions after two days of the 18th Oregon Junior Stroke Play Championship, taking place June 30th-July 2nd at the OGA Golf Course in Woodburn, Ore.
Following today’s round, the field for both the Boys and Girls Divisions were cut in half, with the top half of scores, including ties, making it to Thursday’s final round. Forty Boys and 16 Girls advanced to play tomorrow.
Tibbits is the only player in the Boys Division that is currently under par for two rounds. After a 1-under par 71 on Tuesday, he continued his steady performance with another 71 on Wednesday, totaling 142 (71-71, -2) after two days. Four players are tied for second, three shots back at 145 and 1-over par: Samuel Pyon (Happy Valley, Ore.), with scores of 75-70; Bryce Wortman (Klamath Falls, Ore.), with scores of 72-73; Cole Chrisman (Bend, Ore.), with scores of 70-75, and Benjamin Gruher (Camas, Wash.), who has scores of 75-70.
Clayton Rajewich (Vancouver, Wash.) and Max Murai (Beaverton, Ore.) are tied for sixth place at 146 (+2) for the championship.
In the Girls Division, Slama, last week’s Oregon Junior Amateur champion in the Girls Division, is also the only player under par in her division after Wednesday. She has a two-day total of 143 (-1), with scores of 71-72. During today’s second round, Slama knocked in her tee shot on the par-3 8th hole for a hole-in-one, extending her overall lead as she maintained it throughout the day.
Ellen Secor (Portland, Ore.) is five shots back and in second place after scores of 74-74 – 148 (+4). Haley Greb (Pendleton, Ore.) is in third place with a two-day total of 73-76 – 149 (+5), and Taylor Hartley (Vancouver, Wash.) is in fourth place at +6 overall (75-75 – 150).
Tee times for tomorrow’s final round will begin at 8:00 AM for the Girls Division, and 8:54 for the Boys Division.
