Top Seeds Advance in Junior Boys and Girls Division at Oregon Junior Amateur; Match Play Continues Wednesday

REDMOND, ORE. – The second day of the 85th Bob Norquist Oregon Junior Amateur Championship came to a close Tuesday evening at Eagle Crest Resort – Ridge Course in Redmond, Ore., with the number one seeds in the top divisions advancing and all divisions set to begin match play on Wednesday.

Four divisions (Intermediate Girls, Intermediate Boys, Pee Wee Girls and Pee Wee Boys) ended stroke play qualifying on Tuesday. Three divisions (Junior Boys, Girls and Boys) began match play today.

The top seeds in the top divisions both advanced to the next round of match play. The number one seed in the Girls Division, Ellie Slama (Salem, Ore.) defeated Haley Greb (Pendleton, Ore.) 6 & 4 to advance to the quarterfinals. In the Junior Boys Division, Bryce Wortman (Klamath Falls, Ore.) advanced to the round of 16 with a 7 & 6 win over Nick Conway (Salem, Ore.).

The Championship Flight of the Girls Division will play quarterfinal matches on Wednesday. In the Junior Boys Division, round of 16 matches will be played on Wednesday.

Scotty Kennon (Bandon, Ore.) medaled in the Intermediate Boys Division, shooting scores of 68-73 – 141 (-3). Isaac Buerger
(Redmond, Ore.) finished in second with scores of 76-69 – 145, while Brody Marconi (Portland, Ore.) earned third place honors with scores of 78-73 – 151.

In the Intermediate Girls Division, Baylee Hammericksen (Medford, Ore.) finished with a two-day total of 158 (81-77, +14) to earn medalist honors by just one shot over Jessica Ponce (Portland, Ore.), who shot 11 shots better on her second day of qualifying and finished at 159 (85-74, +15).


Graham Moody (Vancouver, Wash.) won stroke play qualifying for the Pee Wee Boys Division, shooting a 2-over par 38 to win by two shots over Ethan Tseng (Portland, Ore.) and Collin Hodgkinson (Beaverton, Ore.). In the Pee Wee Girls Division, Jacinda Lee (Camas, Wash.) shot a 9-over par 45 to win medalist honors by one shot over Riley Hammericksen (Medford, Ore.) and Zoe Newell (West Linn, Ore.).
