Top Seeds Fall in 31st Oregon Senior Amateur; Women’s Championship Match Set for Thursday

Molalla, Ore. - Both of the number one seeds in the Men’s and Women’s Divisions lost on Wednesday, setting up the Women’s Championship match and quarterfinal matches for the Men’s Championship Flight on Thursday at Arrowhead Golf Club, site of the 31st Oregon Senior Amateur Championship.

In the Men’s Division, top-seed Doug Banks (Tualatin, Ore.) lost to 17th seed and 2013 U.S. Senior Amateur runner-up Pat O’Donnell (Happy Valley, Ore.) 5 & 4. O’Donnell will play John Qualman (Eugene, Ore.), the number 25 seed, in tomorrow’s quarterfinals. The winner of that match will play the winner of the quarterfinal match between 4th-seed Alex Foster (Beaverton, Ore.) and 5th-seed Tom Prevost (McMinnville, Ore.).

Three-time defending champion Scott Hval (Portland, Ore.), the number two seed, will play 26th-seed Denny Taylor (Gladstone, Ore.) in tomorrow’s quarterfinals. In the fourth and final quarterfinal, 19th-seed Ron Hop (Dayton, Ore.) will play against 27th-seed Michael Kloenne (West Linn, Ore.).

In the Men’s Championship Flight, quarterfinals will begin in the morning on Thursday and the semifinals will be played in the afternoon. All other flights will play semifinal matches on Thursday and final matches on Friday.

In the Women’s Division, Anita Wicks (Roseburg, Ore.) defeated defending champion Leilani Norman (Eugene, Ore.) 4 & 3 in the semifinals to advance to Thursday’s final match against Loree McKay (Hillsboro, Ore.). McKay defeated Charisse Spada (Portland, Ore.) in the other semifinal match on Tuesday.
