Tran Posts Wins at Southern Oregon Junior and Klamath Basin Junior Championships
Charlie Tran recorded a pair of wins while Jade Gruher and Sofia Fuenmayor were also victorious during the Southern Oregon swing of the OGA Junior Major Tournament schedule.
Recent OGA Junior Majors (July 26-29):
The Southern Oregon Junior Championship was held July 26-27 at Rogue Valley Country Club in Medford.
Tran (67-72) shot 5-under par for the 36-hole event for the win. His opening round featured six birdies, to just one bogey, in posting the low round for the competition.
Bryce Stiemert (75-69), Gavin Swartley (72-72) and Simon Grey (70-74) tied for second at even par.
In the Girls Open 12-18 Division, Jade Gruher (76-74) finished 4-over par to win the event by four strokes. Her final-round 74, which included three birdies, was the low round on the girl’s side.
Corrine Lilly White (76-78) and Fuenmayor (75-79) tied for second at 8-over.
Tran (71-66) followed up his win at the Southern Oregon Junior by posting a 7-under par finish at the Klamath Basin Junior Championship played July 28-29 at Running Y Ranch in Klamath Falls.
He was one of 10 players in red figures in that event, edging Ethan Jaehn (67-71) who finished at 6-under and Eli Huntington (75-64) who ended up 5-under for the Boys Open 14-18 Division title.
Fuenmayor (73-74) won the Girls Open 12-18 at 3-over par, two strokes better than Tora Timinsky (78-71) who finished alone in second place at 5-over par. Fuenmayor was steady during both rounds recording par on 27 of the 36 holes.
In the Boys 12-13 Division, Davis Hartwell shot a remarkable 14-under par 58 in the final round to win that division by 16 strokes. More on that round can be found by clicking here.
The OGA Junior Major Tournament schedule resumes Aug. 2-3 with the Portland City / Bob Allard Memorial Championship at Rose City Golf Course.
