PORTLAND, ORE. - Tom Prevost (McMinnville, Ore.) and John Molitor (Soap Lake, Wash.) both advanced to this year’s U.S. Senior Amateur Championship, while Leilani Norman (Eugene, Ore.) medaled and four others advanced to the 2015 U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur Championship, as both qualifiers were held concurrently on Monday at Waverley Country Club in Portland, Ore.

Prevost and Molitor split medalist honors, as both shot 75 (+4) on a difficult day with tough conditions. However, the two co-medalists were consistent enough to qualify and finish one shot better than six others who battled for 1st and 2nd alternate spots: Jerry Cundari (Portland, Ore.), Bill Hood (Beaverton, Ore.), David Jacobsen (Portland, Ore.), Larry Netherton (Highlands Ranch, Colo.), Denny Taylor (Gladstone, Ore.) and Jeff Thomas (Costa Mesa, Calif.). Hood birdied the first playoff hole to earn the 1st alternate spot, while Thomas finished as the 2nd alternate.

The 2015 U.S. Senior Amateur Championship will be held Sept. 26-October 1 at Hidden Creek Golf Club in Egg Harbor Township, N.J.

In U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur qualifying, Norman fired a 5-over par 77 to earn medalist honors by one shot over Debbie Friede (Washougal, Wash.). Those two moved on to this year’s championship, along with Ginny Burkey (Eugene, Ore.) and Akemi Nakata Khaiat (Los Angeles, Calif.), who both fired 79s on the day, and Katy Wright (Camas, Wash.).

Wright earned the final qualifying spot after defeating Karen Madison (East Wenatchee, Wash.) in a playoff. Both players shot 82 (+10) in qualifying.

The 2015 U.S. Women’s Senior Amateur Championship will be held Sept. 26-October 1 at Hillwood Country Club in Nashville, Tenn.
