PORTLAND, ORE. - The OGA would not be possible without the dedication and commitment of its wonderful volunteers. To thank the hundreds of hardworking individuals who take time out of their year to help with Championships, Junior Golf and Course Rating, the OGA held Volunteer Appreciation Day at Riverside Golf and Country Club in Portland, Ore. on Monday, October 17th.

After a day filled with golf and good times, awards were given to those who went above and beyond in their volunteering with the OGA. Bobbi Breslin was named OGA Volunteer of the Year for her work in Oregon Junior Golf. Bobbi helps with registration and scoring at Junior Golf tournaments, and is in charge of host families for the Hogan Cup teams that travel from out of state each year. She also puts in several office days, where she helps to mail out registration packets and complete other projects to keep Oregon Junior Golf caught up during a busy golf season!

Peter Pittock was recognized with the Distinguished Service Award for his work over the past 20+ years volunteering with the OGA as a Rules Official. Peter would travel all around the state helping with Championships, Junior Golf tournaments and USGA Qualifiers. He would go wherever he was needed, dedicating his craft to officiating the Rules of Golf. Now “retired” from his volunteer work at the OGA, Peter will surely be missed, but we wish him the best in his next endeavor.

Phil Fribley was also recognized with the Distinguished Service Award. Phil passed away during the holidays after being diagnosed with leukemia. Phil was part of the OGA family for over 20 years and was known for helping with Championships and Junior Golf as the lead pace of play official. He was a dedicated OGA supporter and always had a smile on his face. Phil’s wife, Mary, and two sons Chad and Cory accepted the award on his behalf. Phil will be forever missed.

Dave Scharringhausen earned recognition for his work in OGA Championships and Junior Golf and Steve Hagen was also recognized for his work as a Rules Official for Junior Golf. Both were awarded as a Volunteer of the Year Honoree. John Brown earned the Course Rating Volunteer of the Year Honoree award.

Thank you to all OGA volunteers who assisted with Championships, Junior Golf, and Course Rating in 2016! See you in 2017!
