JOSÉ DE JESUS RODRIGUEZ EARNS FIRST AMERICAN VICTORY
Mexico’s José de Jesus Rodriguez picked up his first win on the Web.com Tour Sunday at the United Leasing & Finance Championship after making a final-round run. Rodriguez, a four-time PGA TOUR Latinoamérica and a 19-time international winner, put together a closing 2-under 70 at Victoria National Golf Club to finish the week at 6-under 282, good for a one-stroke victory over Tour rookie Wyndham Clark. The 37-year-old earned $108,000 for his victory, enough to move him up 20 spots to No. 3 on the Regular Season money list. For Rodriguez, who finished at No. 1 on the Order of Merit on PGA TOUR Latinoamérica in 2018, the win was an emotional experience. The Irapuato, Mexico, native lost a personal supporter and sponsor two years ago and since has dedicated his playing to the sponsor’s memory. As Rodriguez was handed the trophy Sunday, he looked to the sky, tears in his eyes, realizing he was one step closer to his first PGA TOUR card.

YOUNG STARS GAIN MOMENTUM IN EVANSVILLE
It’s been a season of youth on the Web.com Tour in 2018, with seven out of nine winners falling in the under-30 category. Teenage phenom Sungjae Im took home the season-opening Bahamas Great Exuma Classic at Sandals Emerald Bay to take an early lead on the Regular Season money list, a spot he’s maintained for nine-straight weeks. Former Louisiana State University standout Sam Burns carded a T2 finish in his third start on Tour before going on to win the Savannah Golf Championship two weeks later. The youthful trend continued at last week’s United Leasing & Finance Championship, with Maverick McNealy and Wyndham Clark each carding career-best finishes in Evansville. McNealy, the former No. 1 amateur in the world, took the 18-hole lead Thursday – the second of his short Web.com Tour career.

The 22-year-old maintained the lead until late on Sunday, when a final-round 2-over 74 caused him to drop down the leaderboard. Despite the shaky finish, the California native still finished the week T3, picking up his first top-25 and moving inside the top 50 on the Regular Season money list. Finishing one stroke ahead of McNealy was Clark, whose 5-under 67 in the final round threw him into contention.

Clark entered Indiana with two top-25s already under his belt, but the runner-up performance was the first of his career. The week moved the Byron Nelson Award winner to No. 15 on the Regular Season money list.

BILLY HORSCHEL AND SCOTT PIERCY VICTORIOUS IN NEW ORLEANS
It was a week full of unique twists and turns, from play format to two-player teams to walk-up songs, but the thrill of the Zurich Classic wasn’t enough to distract Web.com Tour alums Billy Horschel and Scott Piercy, who closed with a bogey-free 5-under 67 in alternate-shot play at TPC Louisiana to move the number of Web.com Tour alumni wins on the PGA TOUR to 496. The win was the second for Horschel in New Orleans, who won the Zurich Classic in 2013 when it was a 72-hole stroke play event. The duo began the day three strokes back but moved into contention after opening with birdies on the first two holes. Brice Garnett, leader of the 2017 Regular Season money list and the 2017 WinCo Foods Portland Open teamed with Chesson Hadley to finish T4, three strokes back of the winning team.

2018 WEB.COM TOUR MEMBER TO WATCH

Kyoung-Hoon (K.H.) Lee – 26 – Seoul, South Korea

South Korea native K.H. Lee has found his stride in his third season on the Web.com Tour, having carded three top-10 finishes in nine starts during the 2018 season. Despite opening the season with a missed cut in The Bahamas, Lee has fought each week, finishing T2 at the Country Club de Bogotá Championship as well as the North Mississippi Classic. The 26-year-old carded the round of the day during the final round of the United Leasing & Finance Championship, ending T3 after a closing 6-under 66. Lee sits at No. 8 on the Regular Season money list as he chases his first PGA TOUR card.
