WEB.COM TOUR RETURNS TO ACTION IN WICHITA
After a week off, the Web.com Tour resumes play this week at the Wichita Open contested at Crestview Country Club in Wichita, Kansas. The long-standing event is one of four current events to have remained on the schedule since the Tour’s inception in 1990. This year’s iteration features 156 players competing for $625,000. The field includes 43 Tour winners, seven PGA TOUR winners, and eight of the top 10 players on the Regular Season money list.

Last year’s Wichita Open served as a breakthrough week for former University of Oregon star Aaron Wise. He broke through for his first win on the Web.com Tour doing so in wire-to-wire fashion. The victory vaulted Wise into the top 25 on the money list, a position he would not relinquish, eventually earning his PGA TOUR card here in Portland.

MASON OVERSTREET TO MAKE WEB.COM TOUR DEBUT
University of Arkansas rising junior Mason Overstreet will make his first Web.com Tour start this week at the Wichita Open after winning the 2017 Patriot All-America Invitational to earn a sponsor’s exemption into the field. Overstreet, an Oklahoma native, has made a strong statement in his first two seasons at Arkansas, finishing runner-up at the NCAA National Championship as an individual his freshman year (becoming only the second person in school history to finish inside the top five). Razorbacks have had immense success on both the Web.com Tour and PGA TOUR, with 2017 Web.com Tour graduates Austin Cook and Andrew Landry having each picked up their first TOUR victory this season. Overstreet will join fellow Razorback and Patriot All-America champion (2012) Sebastian Cappelen in Kansas as Cappelen seeks to become a two-time winner in Wichita.

SAM BURNS INCHES CLOSER TO SPECIAL TEMPORARY MEMBERSHIP ON PGA TOUR
Savannah Golf Championship winner Sam Burns moved one step closer to receiving special temporary membership on the PGA TOUR with his T41 finish at the U.S. Open last week. Burns, who was one of three current Web.com Tour members to play the weekend at Shinnecock Hills, earned 15.30 FedExCup points with his finish, moving his season total to 212.30. In order to become a special temporary member and earn unlimited sponsor exemptions on TOUR for the remainder of the season, Burns needs to equal the number of points earned by last year’s No. 150 in the FedExCup Standings (269). The 21- year-old has made seven starts on the Web.com Tour this season, posting three top 25-finishes including a win in the Peach State and a runner-up at the Country Club de Bogotá Championship. He returns to Web.com Tour play for the first time since the Knoxville Open at this week’s Wichita Open.

NUMBERS TO KNOW

  • 4 – Four past Wichita Open Supporting Wichita’s Youth champions have gone on to win Majors, twice as many as any other tournament (Tom Lehman, 1996 Open Championship; David Duval, 2001 Open Championship; David Toms, 2001 PGA Championship; and Jason Dufner, 2013 PGA Championship).
  • 9 – 2014 Waste Management Open winner Kevin Stadler competed in this year’s Rust-Oleum Championship, marking his return to professional golf after a nearly four-year battle with a nagging hand injury. Stadler carded rounds of 71-69-71-68–279 to finish the week at 9-under, good for a T22 finish and a spot in this week’s Wichita Open field.
  • 3 – There have been three wire-to-wire winners (no ties) in Wichita’s history: Tom Lehman (1990), Eric Hoos (1991), Aaron Wise (2017).

2018 WEB.COM TOUR MEMBER TO WATCH

Taylor Moore – 24 – Dallas, Texas

University of Arkansas alum Taylor Moore has had a strong start to his sophomore season on the Web.com Tour, having already surpassed his 2017 top-10 finish total (three) with four top-10s in 13 starts. The former SEC Freshman of the Year posted a career-best runner-up finish at the Chitimacha Louisiana Open presented by NACHER and currently sits at No. 16 on the Regular Season money list. Moore, who finished just outside of The 25 last year, is sixth on Tour in total driving, fifth in driving distance (322.6), and eighth in scoring average – final round (68.50). The former Mackenzie Tour – PGA TOUR Canada champion will look to capture his maiden Web.com Tour title and lock up his first PGA TOUR card this week in Wichita.
